A Philosophical Testimony on Contact

Orbs of Light, Non-Human Intelligence, and the Future of the Human Species

Most writing on non-human intelligence asks you to believe. This book asks you to think.

In 2014, on the shore of Lake Huron, a teenager and two friends lay back on the pavement, quieted their minds, and called three lights out of an empty sky. A Philosophical Testimony on Contact begins with that event and refuses every easy thing that usually follows it.

It takes a subject most people file under nonsense (summoning, Orbs of Light, and the intelligence that might stand behind them) and holds it to the standard of a real moral argument. It is written for the skeptic first.

A testimony, and an argument

The book begins in testimony. It is the account of a practice the author found and refined over years, written for a reader who has every reason to be skeptical.

From that testimony it builds an argument. It gives the method clearly enough that you could attempt it yourself, then asks the harder question of what such an encounter would mean: what it is for one will to meet a greater one, what each might owe the other, and why everything turns on whether a power respects a will or overrides it. This is where the Guardian and the Predator part ways.

The argument does not stop at whether the phenomenon is real. If it is, the book asks, what does it require of us, not as believers but as people who have to decide how to live?

The Summoner’s Instructions

The book lays out the whole method. It asks nothing of your cosmology, only preparation: a quiet mind, steady focus, the right emotional state, respect, and openness. If you are willing to attempt it, the experience can become yours rather than mine.
